Mid 50's Magnatone Mark IV.
Strings: 012 - 017 - 022 plain - 036 - 046 - 056
Very cool guitar, manufactured by Bigsby for Magna Electronics (aka Magnatone) -- bolt on maple neck with rosewood fretboard, plywood body, funky single coil pickups, aluminum bridge, aluminum nut, trapeze tailpiece. Mike had it tuned Open D tuning for "I'm Ready" and tuned Open E for "I'm In the Mood", heavy brass slide used on both. This guitar has a huge tone, almost beyond comprehension...listen to "I'm In The Mood" for proof. Best when played through a tube amp with gobs of headroom, like a Hiwatt 100. According to Mike "It ain't for sale."
This is the bottom guitar on the back cover of the "Hook Water Wolf" CD. The upper guitar is the 60's Sears Silvertone guitar.
Mike used this guitar for the lead slide on "I'm Ready", and used the Silvertone for the rhythm slide.
